Dr. Leonard McComb wird 1930 in Glasgow geboren. Von 1954-1956 studiert McComb an der Junior Art School Manchester und später am Regional College of Art Manchster. Im Anschluss geht McComb an die renomierte Slade School, wo er sein Studium als post graduate in Bildhauerei abschließt. Seit 1990 ist er Mitglied der Royal Academy von 1995 bis 1998 Keeper of the Royal Academy. Er ist ehrenhaftes Mitglied der Royal Watercolour Society und der Royal Societies of Painter Printmakers und Portrait Painters. Leonard McComb ist seit 2004 Ehrendoktor der Oxford Brookes university.
