Of late, John Martin, an organic but resolutely formalistic abstractionist, has been formidable and monumental, undeviating and restless, but now some caprice, whimsy and casual touches are undermining his analysis of planes and volumes. The touch in these refreshing works is sometimes tender and fragile;intriguing new aspects of his work have been revealed." "The Australian"
